You may know these easy luscious layer bars as Hello Dollies or Magic Bars. Either way, they are an absolute favorite cookie bar dessert in our home and they make the perfect treat to share at any gathering! I like to use a chocolate chip cookie base instead of graham cracker crust, and I take a shortcut by using a Betty Crocker mix added with butter and an egg.
This recipe is truly simple and anyone you share it with will love it!

These easy luscious layer bars start with the chocolate chip cookie base, and then combine layers of chocolate and butterscotch chips, sweetened coconut, condensed milk and walnuts. These layers are bound together in the oven and result in a rich, indulgent treat. You can even cut them into small squares to share with a crowd!

Tips for making Luscious Layer Bars
- Make them ahead. These bars take about 2 hours to cool. They’re much easier to cut after they have fully cooled.
- How do I store the bars? They are best kept in an airtight container or ziplock baggie.
- Can Luscious Layer Bars be frozen? Yes! You can freeze them in a ziplock gallon bag and then allow them to come to room temperature before eating.
- Are these bars really rich and sweet? YES! They’re so deliciously rich and sweet. I find it best to cut them into smaller squares or bars and always have milk or water for whomever you’re serving them to.
- Do I have to add walnuts? Walnuts are optional but truly add the best texture! I also love that they are slightly toasted in the oven.
- Can these bars be made GLUTEN FREE? YES! Simply make sure that you replace the cookie mix for a gluten free option. Everything else is naturally gluten free, just be sure to double check your labels.
