My 3 kiddos love freezer friendly waffles on early school mornings. Weekdays are busy at our house and I love the convenience of make-ahead breakfasts! I wanted to create something that was easy for them to make themselves, and also give them a boost of energy to help them start their day off right. After experimenting a bit, I was able to create this recipe for make ahead healthy protein waffles!

Freezer friendly and toaster ready!
These little waffles are simple to make and freeze in a large batch! I made several bags of them so the kids can grab one or two of them to enjoy before school or even on their way out the door.
These waffles would make a great after-school snack as well. Add a little peanut butter, some banana slices and a dash of cinnamon and you have a really hearty mini meal!

This little waffle maker is so awesome and makes the waffles the perfect size for re-heating in the toaster! We gave each of our kids a mini waffle maker in their stockings last Christmas. They’re so fun and inexpensive!

Tips for freezing:
Making these toaster waffles ahead has been SO helpful for grab and go breakfasts! Let me share my tips for the best way to freeze them.
After cooking, allow the waffles to fully cool so you avoid trapping any steam into the bag (that moisture will create ice and freezer burn). I like to add my waffles to a cookie sheet and let them freeze for 15 minutes or so. Then I add them to a gallon ziplock freezer bag.
If you want to keep them extra fresh, you could even go one extra step further and wrap them in 2’s in plastic before adding them to the freezer bag.
