Today I have a delicious side dish idea to share with you, and I’m certain you will love it like I do! I could eat this side dish weekly, it’s very versatile and my family loves it. Let’s head into the kitchen and whip up a batch of this quick and easy parmesan asparagus!
Let’s start with the basics
This recipe is super simple and only requires a few ingredients. Here is a little list of what you’ll need to make my quick and easy parmesan asparagus.
- Fresh Asparagus
- Garlic (powder or fresh is fine)
- Onion powder
- Oil or butter for sautéing
- Shredded parmesan (I LOVE Frigo. All cheese is not created equal and I think it’s worth getting the good stuff!)
I like to cut the tough ends off of the asparagus. You can leave them whole or chop them into smaller, bite-sized pieces if that’s easier for your family. You can also decide if you want to keep the asparagus on the firm side, or sauté/steam until really tender.
After the asparagus has been in the pan for 8-10 minutes, I like to add the seasoning. Keeping things simple over here and just using a combo of onion, garlic and sea salt. Be sure your heat isn’t too high or the garlic powder will burn and get bitter.
My final touch and favorite addition to this side dish is to add a sprinkle of a high quality, shredded, Parmesan cheese. I let the cheese melt about 30 seconds with the heat on and then shut the heat off and place the lid on the pan to allow it to finish melting. This creates a yummy crust on the cheese but will leaves some of it soft in the center. Now let it sit for 5 minutes or so before you pull the lid off to eat. This last 5 minutes seams to just allow for the cheese to melt and the asparagus to steam for just a few minutes more. It turns out so delicious EVERY TIME!
Curious about my saute Pan? We have been using this pan set for 2 years and love it.
2 years ago I made the switch to non-toxic, non-stick pans and never looked back! I have used this set every single day for cooking, I love them. They do have to be hand washed, but they are the best non-stick pans I have ever used. Check them out HERE!

Allow to sit for 5 minutes.Cheese will be melted on the asparagus and slightly crispy on the pan. DELICIOUS!Enjoy this side dish hot. *Best made and eaten right away. *You can adjust saute time to your own liking. You can lessen the time for more firm asparagus, or cook longer on low heat for a more tender bite.
Take note that I left measurements off of this recipe. Depending on how much asparagus you use, your seasoning amounts will obviously change. You really just need a good sprinkle of the garlic, onion and salt, and a handful of the shredded cheese! Taste test and re-season to your liking.
