Using nontraditional fall colors, I’ve gathered garden goods for a welcoming fall harvest tablescape with an element of surprise!
This year I was inspired to decorate my fall table with nontraditional fall colors. Greens and rich plums really grabbed my attention. When I saw these beautiful cabbages I knew I had to incorporate them into the centerpiece because of their lovely touches of plum in the center leaves.
I didn’t even realize it until after this table was set up, but my spring tablescape also included greens and purples! Maybe we need a little round of who wore it best… hah!
Instead of just placing these items on the table, I decided to gather them in a wicker basket for a play on a cornucopia. I love how it mimics harvested garden goods filling a basket! My hope is to bring an inviting feeling and theme of gratitude to the table.
Why nontraditional colors for a fall harvest tablescape?
Typically I gravitate to reds and ambers during fall, I really love them! This year though, these shades of green and moody plums just pulled me in. I love the element of surprise they bring to the table and I think it will make for a fun conversation piece!
Tips for building a centerpiece:
- Gather similar items in 3’s and 5’s, this will create balance
- If you’re centerpiece is bold, try to keep the background neutral. I like using white dishes and neutral runners or tablecloths because it allows the centerpiece to really shine.
- Build items in the center of the table and taper them down on the sides. This adds visual interest!
- Use a variety of textures. For this table I used pumpkins, cabbage greens, textured flowers and some book pages for an unexpected element.
Isn’t fall such a wonderful time of year? I just love how it encourages a feeling of wanting to cozy up and stay at home. I cherish the days I get to be in my kitchen, making something delicious to share with the people I love.
I’m so happy to have shared my table with you today, and I hope you’ve gained some inspiration for creating a tablescape of your own this season!
