Today I am thrilled to share a fun recipe for easy homemade lollipop suckers! The kids and I had so much fun making these. We thought they would make a great gift or treat to share for Valentine’s Day!
Making candy at home doesn’t have to be hard. You simply need a few ingredients and a candy thermometer (though, event this is optional) to ensure you get the correct temperature.
Rubber molds make it so easy to pour the lollipop mixture into for shaping. They also ensure that your sucker stick will set right in place. We wrapped our Lollipops with a cute clear cellophane wrap and baking twine. I think ribbon would be so pretty too!
Giving out several lollipops to one home? Try making it into a cute bouquet by stuffing a small terra cotta pot with foam and sticking your sucker sticks into it. Then cover the top with bright tissue paper or wrap the entire thing in cellophane to really make it special!
Have fun by making your easy homemade lollipop suckers different colors and flavors! We went with red and pink for the holiday, but you could do these in so many different cute shades of color!

Tips for making lollipop suckers
- You don’t have to have a mold or candy thermometer to make these! You can easily do a water test do see when the syrup has reached hard crack temperature. Do this by filling up a cup with cold water (I like to add an ice cube or two). If the syrup hardens up enough to crack this is the perfect temperature. You do not want your suckers to be soft at all or it could hurt someone’s teeth.
- If you do not have a sucker mold you can simply pour the syrup into small rounds on a silicone mat and add the lollypop sticks after pouring.
- Work quickly after syrup has reached hard crack temp. I like to add my flavor and color after I have turned off the heat. Stir it in and work quickly to pour the suckers out.
- I like to turn my face when adding the flavoring. It can be very strong so you wont want the puff of steam coming up into your eyes (especially cinnamon).

Easy Homemade Lollipop Suckers
Ingredients
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup Karo light corn syrup
- 1/2 bottle LorAnn Oils flavor of you choice I like to use a half of a bottle of this flavoring per batch. The size is .125 fl oz.
- 1-2 drops food coloring (gels work fine, too)
Instructions
- In a medium pot mix together sugar, Karo corn syrup and water. Whisk together and turn on heat to high. Whisk occasionally. You can use a candy thermometer to determine when the syrup hits hard crack (should be about 300°), or you can simply put some of the syrup into a cup of ice water when it starts to thicken and darken. If the syrup becomes hard enough to crack off the spoon you are good to go! This took me about 11 minutes on a gas stove. Prepare your lollypop mold by placing sucker sticks about half way into the circle. When syrup is ready, remove from heat and add about a 1/2 a bottle of flavoring oils. I recommend this over extracts. You can now add 1-2 drops of food coloring if desired. Allow suckers to cool and set in your silicone mold or on your silicone mat. Remove suckers when set and wrap in cellophane and add ribbon for a special touch. Don't forget your free printable tag to go with it!
