DIY Cinnamon and Clove Pinecones

Skip the cinnamon pinecones at the store and make your own that will last all season!

Ingredients
  

  • 18-20 Pinecones
  • Cinnamon sticks Optional
  • Pure Cinnamon essential oil
  • Pure Clove essential Oil
  • Orange essential oil Optional

Instructions
 

  • If you have foraged your own pinecones, spread them on a baking sheet with a parchment paper or aluminum foil.
    Set oven to 200° and "bake" pinecones for 1 hour. This will help remove/kill any bugs as well as drying mold or any debris you don't want in your pinecones.
    If you're using store purchased pinecones you can omit the baking step.
    While the pinecones are on a covered baking sheet, we will now add the scented oil to them. Pure essential oils are very strong so be sure to take caution while working with them as they can irritate your skin and eyes. I used about 5 drops of cinnamon essential oil per pinecone. I then used about 1 drop of clove oil per pinecone (it is very strong!)
    If you are also adding orange essential oil, I did even less of this and only added the orange to maybe 1 out of 3 pinecones.
    After dropping the oil on the pinecones and cinnamon sticks, I used tongs to transfer them into a gallon ziplock freezer bag. I did not drop the oil directly into the bag because the oils can degrade the plastic.
    Seal the pinecones in the ziplock bag and allow to sit anywhere from 24 hours up to a week! The longer they stay sealed the better they will keep the scent when you remove them.
    Set pinecones out flat to dry for a couple of hours after removing from bag.
    Style in a bowl or basket and place around your home to enjoy the scents of Autumn and the holiday season!
    It would also be so fun to bag these up in small cellophane baggies with ribbon to gift to neighbors, teachers or friends during the holidays.
    When pinecones start to lose their scent, simply repeat this process and reuse them! Enjoy them all season long for an inexpensive décor piece and as a wonderful non-toxic aromatherapy for your home.
