Learn how to style a special, beautiful spring tablescape without spending a lot of money. I challenged myself to use only grocery store items for this centerpiece so that I could save money, not have to store new decor, and create something unique and interesting.
Go for grocery store florals
If I am in need of fresh blooms, I always choose grocery store florals over a nursery or floral shop! Why? It saves so much money! Typically you can find a variety of vibrant flowers that work perfect for entertaining, decorating, or gift-giving.
Tips for choosing blooms at the grocery store:
- You may feel overwhelmed by your choices if your grocery store has a good variety. Try to choose a theme or color scheme before you enter the store. Doing so will help you narrow down your choices.
- Complimentary colors look beautiful together. If you’re going for a bright bouquet, try pairing purple and yellow, blue and orange tones, or red and green.
- If you want a cohesive look, choose one color and gather a few shades of it. Then pair it with white to add a little more depth without competing.
- Add texture. I was so drawn to the seeded-greens for my “filler” greens. I also noticed the seeds had a slight purple tint to them so I knew they would blend beautifully with my purple shades.
Tips for building a centerpiece:
- One trick I’ve learned with building a centerpiece is that you can display items in groups of 3 or 5 to balance out the decor as well as fill the space! Instead of placing all these flowers in one vase, I knew I wanted to break them up.
- I also really like to stagger heights. As you can see in this centerpiece, I used a triangle shape with different heights to guide the eye and create visual interest.
- By grouping similar items throughout the table, the centerpiece becomes cohesive and shows a clear theme.
The element of surprise:
I had so much fun getting creative with these gorgeous Savoy cabbages. Isn’t their texture just beautiful? I loved adding an element of suprise by carving out the center of the cabbage and adding a jar of tulips inside. So springy!
Shop your home
It was fun to add different textures with the stone bunnies, vintage books, fresh vegetables and flowers, textured napkins and old dishes. Be sure to “shop your home” when you’re putting your tables together to save money and encourage creativity.
I hope you feel inspired to get creative and set up your own spring/Easter table! It doesn’t take more than a little creativity to put together a unique and beautiful table to enjoy with family or friends.
