Our simple and cozy Autumn farmhouse décor has brought me such joy this fall season. I love how low-fuss decorating for fall can be, as I mostly use foraged items like branches, dried flowers or garden pumpkins.
I hope today to inspire you with some ideas on how you can decorate on a dime or DIY a few simple projects to make your home feel welcoming and cozy. After all, our homes are our refuge and safe place away from the world. Within the walls of our home we can fully feel at peace as we create a space that is calming and reflects what means the most to us.
Simple and Cozy Autumn Farmhouse ideas:
- Flameless candles
- Dried flowers or leaf branches
- Textured baskets
- Knit or chunky woven blankets
- Make caramels or caramel apples!
- Create a little drink station for tea or cocoa in your kitchen
- Gather picked apples or garden squash and display in a pot, bowl or basket
- Display vintage Autumn inspired art
This year I clipped some hydrangeas from my yard for a centerpiece on our coffee table. The best tip I can give you for drying hydrangeas is to leave them on the stem until they begin to dry on their own and become almost papery. Then you can clip them and place them in your home in a vase (no need to add any water). These will last for many weeks and while they do lose a bit of their green color, they add such a stunning texture to any space!
We grew some Baby Boo pumpkins in our garden and I have really enjoyed picking them with the kids. We added them to a large bowl and they make me smile each and every day! Another great budget-friendly fall décor idea.
Paper bag Leaf Branch or Garland Decor
The kids and I have been doing an easy and fun fall craft the last couple of years. We simply use paper lunch bags (I always have them in my pantry) and cut fall leaf shapes. Last year I made a garland for my stairway rail, this year I glued the leaves to a branch from our yard and hung it on my vintage hooks.
Making a garland with your kids is such a fun and easy craft! You could also make a garland with an elderly parent, for a teacher or for a grandparent with your kids’ handprints on them!
A few days ago I stopped at a big garage sale and found this adorable vintage truck for $3! Isn’t it darling? I originally thought I would paint it and use it for Christmas décor, but when I found a bag of cinnamon sticks in my pantry it just clicked in my mind to add them like logs in the back of the truck! They smell so delicious in my kitchen and I love the fall colors this truck adds.
DIY pear and pumpkin arrangement
In case you missed it, I put together a fun fall arrangement with some faux and real flowers, some fruit and a few pumpkins from the garden! You can read the full post here.
Each year we have a tradition to make a budget-friendly Autumn drink station! You can see how I put this one together here. We are using it every day and it just adds such a fun touch to our kitchen!
