Growing up I was blessed with the opportunity to live close to my grandmother. I was lucky to spend a lot of time near her in her small kitchen. Every single time I walked through the door of her home, there was an inviting smell of something delicious cooking. She almost always had a pot roast in the oven, homemade rolls rising, and made-from-scratch pie cooling on the rack. She always made the most delicious pies: rhubarb, raspberry, peach, cherry, you name it. Her passion for making food that brings people together has been a trait I couldn’t help but inherit.
Grandma has aged, and due to physical restrains she isn’t able to be in the kitchen much anymore. Because she always patiently taught me, I am now able to make and share those recipes I grew up loving.
One day I told grandma, “If there is one thing I’d love to have after you go to heaven, it’s your rolling pin”.
Grandma’s rolling pin, to me, is a symbol. It represents her passion for making food that brought her family together, day after day, generation after generation. Her rolling pin represents a lifestyle I want to carry on in my own home; gather together, find joy in the comfort of home and a place at the table.
Dreamware collection
After recently meeting sweet Rebekah Polder, I instantly took interest in learning more about her family business Old World Kitchen. A leap of faith lead the Polder family to their dream of giving up the corporate world to be able to work together in their own home.
The Polder’s work together each day to create one-of-a-kind heirloom kitchen utensils that can be passed down from generation to generation.
These hand-carved pieces are more than a kitchen tool; they’re a symbol just like grandma’s rolling pin. They represent time spent together as a family making memories. I can’t wait to teach my daughter to make the recipes I love, and someday be able to hand down some of these special pieces to her.
The Polder’s family story is one of hard work and perseverance. Their mission to be able to build a family business hand-carving their Dreamware pieces is incredibly inspiring.
What is Dreamware?
The Polder family started selling hand-carved wood spoons they created by using fallen hardwood salvaged from the forest floor on their farm. As their spoons started to quickly sell at the farmer’s markets, they went back to the drawing board. Soon, their “Dreamware” collection of handcrafted kitchen pieces was born. They work as a family with no employees to create these unique kitchen pieces, and send them all around the world.
I’ve been thrilled to try some of the baking utensils made from “fancy maple”. They are so beautiful and I adore the meaning and story behind these handcrafted treasures made by talented artisans.
Celebrating a decade of Dreamware
In June 2019, the Polder family will be celebrating 10 years of Dreamware! 10 years of success in their goal of being able to work together in their home each day.
Each Dreamware utensil is an investment piece and backed by a lifetime guarantee from the Polder family. They take pride in their products and want each new owner to enjoy them for a lifetime.

If you get the chance, please read the Polder’s story HERE on their about page. It is the most inspiring story of courage, truth, and proof that trusting in God’s plan can lead us places we can only dream of.
