Tonight I want to share a favorite recipe with you. This recipe for our favorite crispy hot wings is my husband’s favorite. He always makes me feel so good when we try different restaurant wings and he tells me these are still his top pick. The funny part about that is, these wings are super simple! Just 2-3 ingredients… yep! You heard me right. The secret is in the process. Let me tell you how I make them!

How to make our favorite crispy hot wings
You will only need frozen chicken wings (I like the party wing pack with flats and drummettes), Franks RedHot wings sauce (make sure it’s the Buffalo wing version!), and shortening or an air fryer depending on how you decide to finish them.
I like to roast the chicken on a baking sheet to cook them through.
Next you can either melt some Crisco shortening in a pan and fry the wings until golden, or you can finish them in the air fryer. We love them fried simply because they stay crispy longer, however the air fryer is a much healthier way to get a similar crispy texture without the calories.
Be sure to serve your wings immediately after adding sauce. You want them to be enjoyed while they’re hot and crispy! We like to serve ours with veggies and a side of ranch or blue cheese dressing.
Our Favorite Crispy Hot Wings
Equipment
- Air Fryer Optional
Ingredients
- 1 Bag Frozen Party Wing Sections Flats & Drummettes
- 1 Bottle Franks RedHot Buffalo Wing Sauce
- Shortening If deep frying instead of Air Frying
Instructions
- Line a baking sheet with foil and spray with non-stick cooking spray. Bake frozen chicken at 425° for 50 minutes. You can now either fry or Air Fry your wings to finish them. We prefer to deep fry for an extra crispy skin. To deep fry: heat crisco shortening in a large pot on the stove and fry wings until golden and crispy. Allow wings to drip on a paper towel before brushing with wing sauce. For a healthier alternative that still gives a delicious crispy finish, air fry baked wings at 400° for 10 minutes and then add to a bowl. Drizzle with wing sauce and shake the bowl (with lid on) to toss and cover wings with sauce. Wings need to be served immediately after adding sauce so they can be enjoyed hot and crispy. I like to add a side of carrot sticks, celery and ranch dipping sauce. If you need to reheat the wings after sauce is on them, you can still air fry them to crisp them up again!
How are the wings best served?
I love to serve my hot wings with a side of celery and carrot sticks and some ranch dipping sauce. Be sure to serve your wings right away because they are best enjoyed immediately after sauce is put on them. If you need to crisp the wings back up or re-heat them, you can add them back into the air fryer even with the sauce on them!
