Today I am sharing the process of our Neutral Master Bedroom Makeover Design and our plans to create a cozy retreat to relax in at the end of each day.

We are slow-process DIY’ers over here, things aren’t done overnight! Between full-time jobs and parenting, there isn’t always a lot of extra time to get projects done at warp speed. However, there can be some good that comes from slowing down and thoughtfully creating. Let me share why!
Taking the time to create a design plan can actually save you money. When you aren’t sure exactly what you want for décor, you visit a store that has several things you might like. Then you are more likely to come home with a variety of items that might not work well together, or that you grabbed out of desperation. If what you really want is out of budget, search online for similar products and watch for sales and free shipping deals!
I have found that it is SO worth nailing down exactly what you want so you can stay in budget, and hunt for specific pieces that will create a finished space you adore!
Our master bedroom has become a catch-all space. All the furniture is thrifted and old, mismatched and doesn’t work well together. We haven’t really taken the opportunity yet to make our bedroom a priority. Since we just celebrated 16 years of marriage, there is no better time to shine the spotlight on this room!

Goals for our Neutral Master Bedroom Makeover Design
- Create a neutral, light and airy space that is relaxing for our minds and bodies.
- Be intentional about finding pieces that will offer both function and beauty (A bed, new matching nightstands, lamps with a dimmer switch, drawers for books, planners, lotion, remote, lip gloss etc). A bench at the end of the bed for putting on socks, slippers and shoes.
- A loveseat on the south end of the room for TV watching, reading, or inviting the kids in to visit. This may seem “extra” to some, but we have the space and I was against having a desk/office space in our bedroom I really wanted to keep things soft and cozy, and incorporate furniture that encourages rest.
- A new bed with soft textures.
- A soft, neutral rug with a classic pattern.
- Beautiful vintage art for above our bed, something that incorporates soft blues and greens.
Our budget-friendly nightstands
These nightstands were a fun surprise! Online they are listed as white, but I read the reviews ahead of time and saw that many people were upset they come in a blonde-wood painted finish. I decided I would get them with plans to paint them myself. They are such an amazing deal and I love the shape and storage space in the drawers. I ended up LOVING the color of them (and the knobs!) and kept them as they are! If you’re looking for new night tables be sure to grab them while they’re on sale!
