When it comes to Valentine’s day, do you like going all-out with a fancy restaurant dinner, or would you rather be at home, avoiding crowds?
There was a time when my husband and I loved to eat out. Then we had children, hah! Now you won’t find me anywhere near town on Valentine’s day!
We have started a fun tradition of eating at home as a family, and listing 10 things we love about each other; It’s simple and meaningful. Here are some ideas on how to create a fun Valentine evening at home.
Steps to create a Valentine themed tablescape:
- Use a neutral tablecloth. Creating a simple and neutral backdrop for your table allows seasonal decor to shine.
- Use white or clear dishes. I always use white or clear dishes when creating my tablescapes. That allows you the freedom to incorporate color in your napkins and centerpiece.
- Layer your centerpiece items. I love to use books or different sized items in my centerpieces. I also use items in odd numbers like 3’s or 5’s to create balance and visual interest. Adding in colorful straws, florals, cake stands, books or a variety of desserts helps the table feel festive!
- Choose a color scheme. I like to choose only one or two colors and stick with different shades of that color on the table. It gives a beautiful, cohesive look!
- Layer your dishes. I like to add a charger under my plates, then layer a large plate, a napkin, then a salad plate. Then add something small on top (for example: a cupcake, cake stand or a small figurine to match the season!)
- Use festive drinks to add charm. I love adding glass bottles with colorful beverages that match the season. I was able to find some pink grapefruit Italian sodas to add to my table. The pop of pink is so fun!
Use desserts for free decor and visual interest:
For this tablescape I added desserts as part of my centerpiece and plate setting. I love decorating cupcakes with bright frosting and using hand-painted french macarons on a cake stand!
