Summertime is just around the corner and that usually means get-togethers with family and friends are too! Hosting can be a big job and we often feel pressure to make everything look “perfect” for our guests. Today I want to show you that you DO NOT need to spend any money to dress up your table and create a unique and inviting environment to welcome your loved ones.
I love serving homemade bread to my sweet guests. You can find my step-by-step tutorial and recipe for this delicious country loaf HERE.
For my tablescape centerpiece I collected items from my home. I loved placing books, summer hats, lemonade bottles, warm bread and honey, and freshly-clipped lilacs on the table. All of these items remind me of a slow, lazy summer afternoon. The theme that came to mind for this table was “sit, and say awhile”.

Tips for party decorating on a dime:
- Use what you already have! By not allowing yourself to go out and buy all new decor for a party, you’re forced to get creative and use what is already in your home. Think of a theme and gather items from different rooms in your home to use. You may be surprised at what you find!
- Try to collect items that will create a cohesive look or theme. My theme for this table was to create a cozy, non-formal vibe. My color palette was mostly neutral with a pop of green and a little black from the print and paper straws.
- Bring nature inside! One of the best things about spring, summer and fall is being able to bring the outdoors in. Clip flowers or branches from your yard to use on your table. These fresh lilacs filled the whole room with the most beautiful, heavenly scent.
- Stagger heights and include texture. Decorating in 3’s and 5’s creates balance. Group similar items on your tablescape and bring in texture for visual interest!
