Where can I start with easy summer living room decor?
- Save money by bringing the outdoors in. For my summer tabletop décor I had so much fun harvesting some of my hydrangeas from outside. They were once white but started to dry out on the stem and turned a beautiful vibrant green. This fun pop of color brought our living room to life and made a fun focal point.
- Incorporate quality art. I cannot recommend this enough! Adding art can really elevate your style and when you can find classic pieces that compliment the season, even better! I highly recommend Heirloom Print Shop. Randi offers a variety of gorgeous reproduction, high quality prints. Check out my favorites here!

- Layer cozy textures. I adore adding soft pillows, textured throw blankets, wicker baskets, candles, anything that involves a cozy feel. My absolute favorite throw pillows I’ve used are these gorgeous frayed-edged blue ones! They are perfect for napping on but add a gorgeous faded color to my summer pallete. I also added this bright white soft throw blanket which my kids love to use when they cozy up on the couch during the summer evenings.
- Create groupings or vignettes. Try grouping items in odd numbers like 3’s or 5’s. You will see balance when you use this trick on your mantel or coffee table, even when you’re styling throw pillows. I love adding trays for texture and warm tones, and I have had fun using this gorgeous wood tray for summer styling in the kitchen and here on the living room coffee table.
This week I was lovingly given this beautiful antique trunk that belonged to my great-grandparents. Everything they owned fit inside of it when they moved here, isn’t that amazing? What a great daily reminder to me that possessions don’t equal happiness.
I really wanted to decorate the trunk with a pretty French mattress cushion. Unfortunately, those are quite pricey! I couldn’t find any for less than around $300, so I decided to grab some upholstery fabric from Joanne’s and make my own cozy cushion pillow. Isn’t the denim colored stitching pretty? It ties right in with the rest of the summer décor.
I so enjoyed subtle hints of greens and blues in my summer décor this year. I plan to incorporate these same colors throughout fall with hand picked apples, baby boo pumpkins, dried flowers and natural elements from outdoors to compliment the blue throw pillows.
