In this post I’m sharing all my ideas for how we created bright and bold girl’s room decor for our daughter who adores color and pattern! She is so deserving of a space that reflects her fun-loving personality.
I’ve always been very drawn to neutrals when it comes to decor. Give me a room filled with woods, whites, textures, taupes, greys and a pop of green from a plant and I’m smack dab in the middle of Heaven.
So, what’s a girl to do when her 6-year-old daughter is opposite in every way? You let her have her cake, and eat it too. Bold color? Pattern? A little mixture of modern and vintage? BRING IT ON. You only get to be six once, after all.
Growing up, I always had a love for changing my bedroom around. I loved to move the furniture, redecorate often, and create a unique space that felt like my own. Luckily my parents were always on board with allowing me to flex my “creative muscles”.
I knew once my daughter Ellie finally had the chance for her own bedroom, we had to make it match her personality.
Choosing a theme
- Choosing a bedroom theme is always beneficial before you start decorating. Making a plan and having a sure vision for how you want to transform a space saves time, money and frustration.
- Make a list or mood board of things you are drawn to and ideas you have to complete your space.
- Pinterest boards or free decorating apps allow you do collect your ideas and narrow them down to create a cohesive look.
Wildflower
Ellie’s bedroom theme came to me quickly. “Do you suppose she is a wildflower?” Remember that line from Alice in Wonderland?
Ellie loves to color pictures of flowers and even more than that, she loves to gather wildflowers. At least once a day she brings me “wishing flowers” AKA dandelions. She would never see a weed as anything less than a flower. She is a free-spirit and a creative soul, and I so loved creating this space that is very reflective of her personality.
Art Station
A small art station was a number one priority to me. Ellie loves to color pictures and create art, so I started my hunt for an affordable desk. To my great surprise, I was able to find this vintage beauty for only FIVE DOLLARS at a garage sale.
While looking for a chair or stool for her art space, I discovered everything was more than I wanted to pay. This cute wooden stool was another $5 find at the thrift store as well as the baskets holding her art supplies.
The round mirror and bright colored globe were found on clearance at Hobby Lobby.
The wildflowers off to the left? You guessed it, fresh picked by my little lady over the weekend on our camp out.
Beddy’s Bedding
Have you ever heard of Beddy’s Bedding? I recently learned about their amazing bedspreads and I’m never looking back! You simply put the one-piece bedspread over the mattress like a fitted sheet and the kids zip down the side like a sleeping bag to climb into bed! Genius! when you’re ready to wash it, it all comes off in one piece. Bedding with ease!
Their products make it so incredibly easy for my kids to make their beds and keep their rooms tidy. No excuses that there isn’t time to make the bed before school, all they have to do is zip and go!
For Ellie’s bed I chose the Chic White for girls.
There are so many fun patterns and colors, which would you choose? If you want to order one for yourself, make sure to use the code “handmade20” which will get you 20% off your order!
Styling on a dime
- Here are a few ideas for styling shelves or room decor on a dime. For this thrifted green cabinet I decided to paint a fun blush color on the inside to brighten it up. I then took our children’s books and placed them in rainbow order.
- I found these printables on Pinerest. You can always find fun images for free to print at home, and then look for inexpensive frames at the thrift store.
- Shop your home for decor that blends well or compliments your theme or color scheme.
- Create your own art. We painted the rainbow art on a small canvas to fill a blank area on the middle shelf.
- Shop clearance. We found these cactus statues at Hobby Lobby for $2. I added them to some white terra cotta pots and used a sharpie to create a mudcloth design.
Go for removable wallpaper
For this room project, I decided to go for removable peel and stick wallpaper. It was so easy and inexpensive to apply, and I don’t have to worry about changing things later like I would if it were permanent paper. This print comes in gold dots as well… CLICK HERE!
DIY transformation
Never be afraid to look at something and see its potential! I scored this old chair for $20 on a market sale page and I knew I wanted to transform it into a funky piece for this space. This was a quick project I was able to complete during my baby’s naptime.
To start, I simply painted over the existing fabric and used craft paints to create an art design on the top of the chair. I then draped contrasting fabric over the seat and secured it to the bottom. I love how it compliments the room!
SHOP THE LOOK
I hope you’ve enjoyed this room tour and felt inspired to create a space that reflects what you love.
