Do you want to know my secret for keeping flowers looking bright and beautiful so they can be included in your home decor?
The answer is simple… BUY FAUX! Trust me, I enjoy fresh flowers in my home as much as anyone! Sadly, it’s not always practical for me to purchase a bundle of blooms week after week to have on display.
In our old home, we were blessed with a huge lilac bush outside the front door. Every spring and summer I was able to bring in endless bunches of lilac blooms. Talk about heaven!
Sadly, since moving, those flowers are no longer available to me. Until I am able to work toward my dream of a cut-flower garden, purchasing them is my only option for incorporating flowers into my decor.
January is always a tricky time of year. Do you decorate with winter or spring-style decor? I tend to want to look forward and see green growing again.
I really enjoy planning and decorating for each holiday. Since Valentine’s Day will be here in just a few short weeks, I thought it would be fun to incorporate some hints of pink into my home. When I discovered these faux tulips, I knew they were my answer for adding a pop of festive color and spring vibe into my decorating. Soon I’ll show you how I used these beauties in my Valentine tablescape to!
Tips for making faux flowers look more realistic:
Faux flowers are being made to look end even feel more and more realistic! Forget about the old cheesy looking baskets of dusty red roses on grandma’s side table (haha, no offense granny!). Here are a few tips for helping make faux flowers look more realistic:
- Real flowers are not perfect and they are not all the same. Faux flowers are made to be very uniform, so after purchasing you’ll want to be sure to give them a good fluffing and spread their leaves and pedals out.
- When you display your flowers, you’ll want to hide the very bottom of the stems so that it’s less noticeable that they’re faux.
- Stagger heights! Bouquets of real flowers always have different heights. It adds visual interest and helps each one stand out.
- Last of all, be sure to bend some stems. One thing I adore about tulips is that they fall gracefully to the side of the pitcher or vase they’re displayed in. They don’t all stand up perfectly straight. Let me demonstrate my point with a visual…
DON’T DO THIS:
Displaying the flowers close together or standing straight up doesn’t help them look real. They all look the same. Bending some of the stems a bit and staggering the heights helps so much!
DO THIS:
You can find beautiful faux flowers at Joann Fabric, Michaels, Hobby Lobby and online! These particular tulips come in many colors and they have a very realistic texture! I found them on amazon HERE.
One last pro about decorating with faux flowers is that you can save them and use them in future decor! Spring table displays, baby or bridal showers, birthday parties and summer BBQ’s! If you love to entertain like I do, you’ll find use for them over and over.
I hope you feel inspired to give faux flowers a try, and discover the many ways you can get creative and save money by using them.
