Cottage Style Girl's Room Design

Today I am thrilled to be sharing my cottage style girl’s room design plan for our daughter Ellie. I had so much fun creating a space that encapsulates her:

Love for color and pattern
Need for a design that will grow with her

Creating the design:

I have always been the type of person who usually just starts decorating without an end plan in mind. If I see something in the store that I like, I purchase it knowing I can somehow incorporate it into my design plan.

Lately, though, I have changed my creative process and I want to share it with you today as I am finding this route to be much more successful for me when it comes to starting and finishing a space and helping it to feel complete.

creating a mood/inspiration board:

With my recent designs, I have really enjoyed the creative process behind designing a mood board. Doing so really helps me better visualize the space! Creating a design will help you to ensure certain items look great together. This in turn allow you to save money and time! No more returning items that aren’t cohesive, and you can save for that perfect make or break piece.

I get asked all the time what I use to create mood boards. I like an App called Morpholio, or the Canva free online mood board which is also great!

When beginning with a room makeover or design, I like to first consider who will be living in it. Who inhabits this space? How is it used? What items are necessary?

When I decorated my son’s room I knew I had to incorporate a desk. My daughter, however, likes to do all her work at the kitchen bar. I knew in her bedroom a reading chair would be more fitting.

I like to choose 2-3 colors for the room and then only go for textures or items that match or are different shades of those. This helps things stay cohsive.
