I have a little 4-year-old who is obsessed with all things Christmas this year. Before Halloween was over I found him digging through some bins in the attic. He squealed with pure joy and exclaimed “dis is da best day of my life!” As it turns out, his Christmas spirit and magic is quite contagious. So, needless today, little Knox and I were found humming Christmas tunes before November 1st.
Let your heart be light
It felt so magical to watch my toddler decorate a small section of the tree with every ornament he could find. I had a lump in my throat as the phrase “let your heart be light” came strongly to my mind. I quickly looked up my favorite version of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” by Judy Garland, and listened to her sing the phrase again.
While “all our troubles” may not be out of sight next year, we have the choice to make our homes our happy place this season. The love and childlike wonder of a little boy sparked my passion for making our home a cozy haven this season.
The theme “let your heart be light” has led and inspired my decorating this year. To me, this can mean allowing yourself to feel the magic of Christmas, feel more lighthearted, or even literally “let your heart be His light”, the light of Christ, and all are special. Opening our hearts to good and joy are so important, especially as we come to the close of a hard year.

Classic nostalgic red Christmas
This year I have had so much fun with the combination of red, white, silver and pink. You may remember our Christmas decor in 2019, as it was similar in color. Both are so fun and whimsical!
We also added a mantel to our home (you can see the process HERE on my Instagram page). This inspired me to try something new, and one afternoon I pulled out all of my red ornaments. After a bit of experimentation, my mantel garland came together and I have loved it so much! For this easy DIY, I used command strips to hang two garlands. I then used regular ornament hooks to attach different sized ornaments.
You can complete this look in just a few easy steps.
Another fun DIY for décor is to wrap boxes with pretty coordinating paper to use in baskets, on console tables or under your tree just to fill empty spots and add a pop of color.
