In this post you’ll find inspiration for simple summertime patriotic decor ideas that will make your home feel special for the season. Patriotic decor doesn’t have to be expensive or overcomplicated. You can add small accents of red, white and blue through DIY projects, throw pillows or blankets, faux flowers, homemade banners, ribbon, decor pieces and art.

May and Memorial Day feels like a kickoff to summer at our house. Memorial Day always helps us to feel extra appreciation for our wonderful and brave soldiers who fight for our every day freedom. I once heard a quote that said “If you want to thank the Americans who fight for our country, then be the type of American worth fighting for”. I like to set up my summer and patriotic decor for Memorial Day in May and leave it up through the month of July.

The spaces in my home have a neutral background and I love to be able to change out smaller, more colorful items like pillows, blankets and mantel decor for each season. I also have a hutch and peg wall in my kitchen that are so fun to decorate. Here are a few ways I added color to these areas for summertime.

Table decor for the seasons
Coffee tables are a great spot for seasonal decor. Here are some items I enjoy changing out seasonally to add a touch of color, something interactive, and something growing (real or faux plants are great!)
- Potted plants (real or faux)
- Textures with a vase, painted pot or basket
- Candles in glass vases
- Books that reflect the season or holiday
- Something interactive (chess, puzzles, photo books, tic tac toe)
- Items that stagger in height (I like to decorate these in 3’s and 5’s)
It’s always fun to add items to the coffee table that you can stack, layer, and edit. Don’t be afraid to keep it simple if it feels overwhelming or cluttered to you. I found this beautiful book A Grand Old Flag (a history of the United States through its flags). It has been so fun to look through and makes the perfect piece of functional decor for our coffee table.

Faux florals for a pop of color
I ordered these faux geraniums last summer and surprisingly fell in love with the pop of red! This pretty embroidered pillow from Amazon goes great on my desk chair and ties in with them. I love the texture it adds!

Mantel decor:
Changing out our mantel each season is so much fun! For this simple patriotic summertime decor I kept our mantel pretty simple with art, a banner, some candles and this amazing carved horse which is one of my favorite decor pieces I have found in a long time!

Tips for styling faux florals:
I love these faux cosmos from Hobby Lobby. I knew I wanted to display them in this cut flower basket, but I didn’t want the ends to show. To hide faux flower stems you can simply wrap the bundle in parchment or brown paper and tie with twine. It looks like they were purchased fresh from a market and displayed here on my entry table. So simple for a touch of summer! Isn’t the texture on the basket so beautiful?

Thank you for stopping by today! I hope you found some ideas and inspiration you liked for decorating your home this summer. Below you’ll find some yummy 4th of July themed desserts, YUM!
