Have you ever attempted making your own soap? I had no idea how easy and fast it is… we’re talking done in 10 minutes! Nor did I realize how satisfying and rewarding it feels to create a quality product that makes for a unique and special gift. These pink peppermint easy homemade soap bars are so refreshing, and smell amazing!
You can be as creative as you want while making these soap bars. I plan to use these bars for Valentine’s day gifts, so I chose to color them pink and give them a peppermint scent. They’re perfect for friends, teachers, family or GALentine’s day (you know, a special gift for your gals!).

Supplies you’ll need to make homemade soap:
- Goats milk soap base
- Peppermint essential oil (or any essential oil scent you prefer)
- Cosmetic grade liquid colors
- Silicone soap mold
- Glass Pyrex measuring cup
- Alcohol spray (to get rid of bubbles)
I have found it is SO much easier to make this soap in small batches. It goes very quickly and its easier to manage if you split it up.
After slicing the 2 pound soap base into cubes (it cuts easy like cold butter), I fill my 1 cup pyrex measuring pitcher with about a 1/2 pound at a time. You can certainly use a larger glass pitcher if you have it, I just find it’s easier to handle the soap base in small batches.
I then put it in the microwave for 1 minute, 30 seconds making sure to stir it every 30 seconds. You’ll want to make sure there are no more lumps, but you also do not want to overheat it.
Once your soap base is totally melted, and you can stir without clumps, you can add your colorant. I loved keeping these a pretty light pink color (2-5 drops of red). I also add 15-20 drops of peppermint oil. Giving them a nice strong scent makes them so refreshing! 1 pound of the soap base will make about 4 bars.
Why use goat’s milk soap base?
- Goat’s milk soap is good for people with dry or sensitive skin, eczema and psoriasis.
- Goat’s milk contains alpha-hydroxy acids which help remove dead skin cells.
- Goat’s milk contains many vitamins and minerals. It is very high in vitamin A. It even contains anti-aging properties.
After the soap has cooled and set, you can pop them out of the mold and wrap them in beautiful paper and ribbon or string! These handmade soap bars make the perfect inexpensive, special gift.
The peppermint flavor is great to use during cold season for people who need a refreshing, breathe-easy scent! .
How do I get rid of the bubbles before the soap bars set?
You can simply and easily get rid of the little bubbles in the soap bars by spraying them with alcohol in a spray bottle.
Ideas for wrapping your soap:
- You can wrap your soap in beautiful patterned wrapping paper and tie it with string or ribbon.
- Wrap your bars up in tissue paper and ribbon so the soap is totally covered.
- Add a bar to a small cellophane baggie with a bow. How fun to be able to see it!

Hi Emily!
This is such a fun idea and I am going to make it for my gals for Valentine’s day! My only question that I couldn’t quite find an answer to is how many soap bars 2lbs. of goat milk makes? Thanks so much for sharing!

Hi Elisa,
the 2 pounds of soap base prepared makes about 8 bars! Hope that helps 🙂

Where do you get the color that you use? Not just food coloring?

If you follow the link in my post, it will take you to the one I purchase. No, it is not food coloring. It’s a cosmetic grade soap base colorant.

Hi Lynn! The colorant is a cosmetic grade liquid color that is for soap base. I linked the one I bought in this post. It comes with a yellow/peach, red and green!
