I wish you could be here and see the flickering cozy lights from these easy DIY paper bag luminaries. They are so much fun to make, it’s a great family craft project!
The directions are pretty straightforward and basic for these darling little lights. They sure do add a dose of magic to any space! I thought I would share a few ideas I had for ways that you could use them:
Ways to use Easy DIY Paper Bag Luminaries:
- A centerpiece for a wedding, party or holiday table. Staggering heights would be so beautiful on any table!
- Treat bags/party favors. You could fill each bag with a little treat or party favor and have them all lit up for your guest to take home with them.
- Mantel Décor. These add such a cozy magical light to any space and make an amazing affordable décor piece for any home!
- Porch décor. Stagger these little luminaries on your porch steps to greet your guests. This would work best if you don’t have snow, of course!
- A backdrop. Putting together a little holiday concern or play and need something to fill in some open areas? These little luminaries are just perfect!
- An activity or craft to make with young children or elderly parents.
- Use as a children’s nightlight during the holiday season! How cozy to set on their side tables.
Making them is easy!
You’ll only need a few supplies for this easy DIY project. For my luminaries I used white paper bags, but brown works just fine, too! I trimmed the top of my bags with scalloped scissors for a little extra character.
It was really fun and easy to free-hand some little stars, but you could use cutters from the craft store if you’d prefer! Having an exacto knife made it so easy to cut the shapes.
Cutting the bags different heights really helps add visual interest when you’re placing them together in a little grouping!
The last item you’ll need for your little luminaries is to place flameless tea lights inside. I found that 3-4 per bag worked perfect! Obviously you would never want to put a real candle inside these. (I know, I shouldn’t have to say it!)
SUPPLIES FOR THIS PROJECT:
I think another fun way to fill these would be with fairy lights! I’ll link my favorite flameless tea light and fairy set below.
