You’ve probably heard that it’s not a bad idea to shop for Christmas extra early this year! Not sure what to get for your kids? Worried about wasting your money on toys that won’t last or that won’t get played with after a month? Let me help! Today I put together a post with 5 favorite kids toys I’d buy again in a heartbeat. These are quality toys I’ve watched my kids play with over and over, for many years.
1. Magnetic Tiles
For nearly a decade my kids have played with magnetic tiles. They are AMAZING for imagination! Each of my children have played with these tiles both independently or all together. They are a lasting toy that I would highly recommend. As for which brand to get? We tried both!
We started out with the Magna-tiles. The Magna-tiles set comes with 100 pieces. I would highly recommend getting a larger set like this to start with, because you kids will be able to do so much more and it will really open up their imaginations. We quickly wanted to add more tiles as the kids were playing so well with them. So I decoded to try the PiccasoTiles as they had good ratings and were only $47.99 for `100 pieces. I will say that I love both and they are compatible so you can have both brands!
I can tell that the Magna-tiles are slightly higher in quality (they are made with quality ceramic magnets and BPA free plastic and they are heavier and sturdier than the PiccasoTiles). That being said, the PiccasoTiles are still awesome and if that’s closer to your price point, go for it! I plan to continue to add an additional set of tiles every few years because every tile seems to get played with as my kids enjoy making cities, parking garages, space stations etc. with ours.

2. Wooden Train Set
My son was given this train set on Christmas 7 years ago and I can tell you that it is still a toy that both my boys play with monthly! YES! It has held up that long. My younger son Knox who is 5 now loves it, and the kids both enjoy setting up a little play city. They get lost in imagination putting it together. We have misplaced the instructions over the years but it’s easy to access online and print off again!

3. Legos
My love for Legos runs deep! My kids aren’t much into electronics (in fact, we don’t even own a Nintendo haha) and a huge reason for that is because they LOVE building Legos! Both of my boys have enjoyed playing with them since they were 5. There are so many great reasons that Legos are a great toy to invest in. They are wonderful for concentration, learning to follow step-by-step directions and fine motor skill building!
I learned long ago not to fuss over keeping pieces separated. Once my kids build the Lego set, they play with it as-is for several days. Inevitably they take the sets apart to build something new with no directions, only imagination. IT IS WONDERFUL! My oldest son who is nearly 12 will come home from school and disappear to the toy room to quietly build. I can tell that doing so is therapeutic for him just like creating is for me. Here are a few of our favorite sets, though there are many amazing choices (you can’t go wrong!)

4. Food Market/Play Restaurant
Another favorite toy over the years that my kids have spent hours and hours playing with is our toy food! They LOVE to play restaurant and pretend to make meals for each other. I have learned that it’s super fun for them to have a variety of quality play food so they can make sandwiches, desserts and take orders. This year I am adding a play cash register to make it even more realistic for them. This is a fun toy that all 3 of my kids get involved with!
Below I will add links for my favorite play food that we have, as well as some amazing deals and sales on some market stands, play kitchens, table and chair sets and everything they would enjoy for a play restaurant experience!
6. Doll House
I have been surprised at how well loved both of these dollhouses have been. They have been played with for years and years and both are loved by my son’s and daughter. The boys enjoy setting up their army guys to play while my daughter arranges furniture in her dollhouse. They love to put their stuffed toys and animal figurines in the dollhouses too. Both are high quality and lasting!

BONUS Idea: Family Game Night Games
I also want to share with you that one evening a week we have been doing a “family game night” with our kids. This activity has bonded our family in so many ways and every single one of us has so much fun! It’s a tradition I would recommend to anyone and I would encourage you to make it a consistent part of your routine. Here are a few of the games we play over and over again and love!
